Accessibility statement
Last updated and effective:
Japan Motor Import wants every customer to be able to find, research, and buy parts on japanmotorimport.ca, including people who are blind or have low vision, are Deaf or hard of hearing, or have motor, cognitive, or speech disabilities.
Section 1 – Standards we work toward
We target WCAG 2.1 Level AA from the W3C, built on four principles:
- Perceivable: information reaches at least one sense — for example, text alternatives for images.
- Operable: features work with keyboard, switch, voice control, or other inputs.
- Understandable: text is clear, pages behave predictably, and errors explain the fix.
- Robust: content works with current browsers and assistive technologies.
We review the site regularly as inventory and features change.
Section 2 – What we do
- Page structure: logical heading order and standard page regions for screen reader navigation.
- Text alternatives: descriptive alt text for meaningful images; decorative images hidden from screen readers.
- Keyboard access: links, buttons, menus, and fields reachable with Tab, with visible focus outlines.
- Labelled controls: accessible names for icon-only links; labelled form fields with clear error messages.
- Colour and contrast: WCAG AA contrast targets; no reliance on colour alone.
- Responsive layout: adapts to phones, tablets, and desktops, and reflows when zoomed.
- Languages: English and French via a language switcher.
- Contact options: tap-to-call, tap-to-text, and tap-to-email links on every page.
Section 3 – Accessibility across key tasks
Finding parts
The vehicle finder uses standard drop-downs for year, make, and model that work with keyboards and screen readers. Category, search, and brand pages use descriptive link text.
Product pages
Prices, condition, mileage, and fitment appear as text, not images.
Cart and checkout
Cart items show name, quantity, and price as readable text. Payment runs through Stripe's secure checkout. If you have difficulty with payment, call us to order by phone.
Your account
Signed-in customers can view orders and invoices and manage profile, password, and light or dark appearance settings.
Section 4 – Assistive technology
Designed for current major browsers and common tools:
- Screen readers: NVDA, JAWS, VoiceOver, and TalkBack
- Keyboard-only navigation and switch devices
- Voice control: Dragon, Windows Voice Access, and Apple Voice Control
- Magnifiers and browser zoom
Please report any combination that does not work well.
Section 5 – Known limitations
The table below lists the limitations we are aware of and the alternative available for each.
| Area | Limitation | Alternative |
|---|---|---|
| Payment checkout | Payment screens come from processors whose code we cannot change. | Place the order by phone. |
| French pages | Some content is machine-translated, so part names and terms may be imprecise. | Call or email for clarification. |
| Older product photos | Some older listing photos have generic alt text. | Condition details appear in listing text; we can describe photos on request. |
| Map directions | The address opens in Google Maps, which has its own accessibility limits. | Full address shown as text: 10601 Ave Brunet, Montreal-Nord, QC H1G 5E1. |
Section 6 – Third-party content
We do not control code from these providers, but we select those with published accessibility commitments and report issues to them:
- Stripe: card and Apple Pay checkout
- Google Maps: warehouse directions
- Facebook and Instagram: our social media pages
Section 7 – Accessibility and the law
- Quebec: the Charter of human rights and freedoms prohibits discrimination based on disability, including in access to goods and services available to the public.
- Across Canada: provincial human rights laws offer similar protection; frameworks such as Ontario's Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act and the federal Accessible Canada Act share the goal of a barrier-free Canada. WCAG 2.1 AA is our chosen standard.
We commit to fixing barriers when reported and offering an accessible alternative in the meantime.
Section 8 – How we handle reports
- We log the report when received by email, phone, or text.
- We acknowledge it within 2 business days.
- We reproduce the problem using your described device and assistive technology, where possible.
- We offer immediate help through another channel, such as taking your order by phone or email.
- We make the fix, update this statement if needed, and let you know when it is live.
Section 9 – Report a barrier or get help
- Email japanmotorimport@gmail.com with the subject "Accessibility Feedback"
- Call 514-369-3330
- Text 514-431-8211
