Disclaimer
Last updated and effective:
Japan Motor Import sells used engines, transmissions, front clips, right-hand-drive (RHD) vehicles, and parts originally built for the Japanese market and intended for use in Canada. Please read this disclaimer before you buy.
Section 1 – Key facts about our products
- Parts are used and pre-owned unless a listing says otherwise.
- Most parts are imported directly from Japan and were built for Japanese-market vehicles, which can differ from Canadian models.
- Every engine undergoes a multi-point inspection and compression test; only engines with positive results ship. Results are available on request.
- Other parts are not bench-tested unless the listing says so.
- Our limited warranty applies in addition to your legal rights.
Section 2 – Product condition
A "used" part was previously installed and working in a vehicle. It does not mean the part is faulty. Expected condition varies by part type:
| Part type | Typical condition | Before installation |
|---|---|---|
| Engines | Typically 32,000–97,000 km; compression tested; minor scratches, surface rust, and seepage are normal | Have a certified mechanic install; replace timing belt, water pump, oil filter, and spark plugs as required |
| Transmissions | Grime and seal weeping are common; not bench-tested unless stated | Confirm manual/automatic, 2WD/AWD, and model code; check fluid and seals |
| Front clips and nose cuts | Cosmetic marks and minor dents possible; some trim may be missing | Check photos and listed contents; confirm body style and years |
| RHD vehicles | Sold in the condition described in the listing | See Section 7 |
| KDM and other parts | Condition stated in each listing | Match part number and trim |
| Electrical parts and ECUs | Not bench-tested; connector oxidation possible; not covered by the limited warranty | Confirm exact part number; ECUs may need reprogramming |
Have every part inspected by a qualified mechanic before installation.
Section 3 – Warranty
- The Warranty Policy sets out coverage periods, exclusions, maintenance requirements, and claim steps. Some items — electrical parts, rotary engines, used performance transmissions — are not covered.
- Legal warranty: Quebec consumers keep their statutory protections under the Consumer Protection Act, which cannot be excluded for used goods. Consumers in other provinces keep their provincial protections.
- Labour: third-party labour, towing, freight, and rental vehicles are not covered.
- Maintenance: installation by a certified mechanic and the listed maintenance steps are required, including an oil change at 5,000 km.
- Exclusions: overheating, modification, forced induction, racing, or unauthorized repairs are not covered.
Section 4 – Vehicle compatibility and fitment
Listings and the vehicle finder are general guides based on manufacturer specifications and import documents.
Your responsibility to verify
Confirm that the engine or transmission code matches your vehicle's factory specification; that the transmission type and drivetrain are correct; and that sensors, mounts, and accessories will work.
Common JDM and Canadian-market differences
Power output, compression, octane requirements, sensor and emissions fittings, gear ratios, accessory brackets, and ECU requirements may vary. Returns for non-fitting parts are generally not accepted unless we posted incorrect Japanese specifications. Unsure? Contact japanmotorimport@gmail.com or 514-369-3330 before ordering.
Section 5 – Mileage disclosure
Japan's "shaken" inspection system leads to earlier vehicle replacement, which often means lower mileage. Mileage shown in listings comes from Japanese auction or dismantler records, in kilometres, when available. Typical used engine range: 32,000–97,000 km, depending on year. If mileage is unknown, no figure is shown and no claim is made.
Section 6 – Emissions, legal use, and long-block pricing
- JDM parts meet Japanese standards. Canadian federal and provincial rules apply, and no compliance is implied unless the listing says so.
- Buyer responsibilities: confirm the engine and finished vehicle meet federal and provincial requirements and inspections (for example, SAAQ in Quebec).
- Emission control equipment must be transferred where required. Removing or disabling it can be an offence.
- Off-road and competition use must follow the relevant sanctioning body's rules.
- Long blocks: accessories may be left attached for testing and convenience at no charge. Unless stated, the price covers the cylinder head and short block only.
Section 7 – Right-hand-drive (RHD) vehicles
- RHD vehicles were built for the Japanese market, not to Canadian motor vehicle safety standards.
- Transport Canada generally allows import once vehicles are at least 15 years old.
- Before buying, confirm with your provincial licensing authority the required inspections and documents, and confirm insurability.
- Gauges, labels, and manuals may be in Japanese or metric, and parts may be harder to source.
- Ask us about any listing details before purchase.
Section 8 – OEM brand and trademark disclaimer
Japan Motor Import is an independent importer and retailer — not an authorized dealer, affiliate, or licensee of any manufacturer. Brand and model names (Honda, Toyota, Subaru, Mazda, and others) are trademarks of their owners and are used only to describe compatibility. "OEM" means made by or for the original manufacturer and fitted at the factory; it does not imply sale through an authorized dealer network.
Section 9 – Website information
Prices, product information, and fitment data may contain errors. We contact you before shipping if an error is found after ordering. Photos show the actual part or typical condition; colours may vary by screen. Listings may be corrected at any time without affecting shipped orders.
Section 10 – Installation and professional advice
Information on the website and from our staff is general guidance, not a replacement for a mechanic's inspection. If you use our local installation service, its labour warranty and terms apply.
Section 11 – Limitation of liability
To the extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect or consequential losses (labour, diagnostics, towing, rentals, lost income, etc.). Total liability is limited to the part's purchase price. These limits do not override non-excludable consumer rights, including under the Quebec Consumer Protection Act.
Section 12 – Handling and safety
- Engines, transmissions, and front clips are heavy — use proper lifting equipment.
- Parts may contain residual fluids; dispose of them per provincial environmental rules.
- Inspect freight deliveries before signing, per the Shipping Policy.
- Contact us before proceeding if a part raises a safety concern.
Section 13 – Buyer responsibilities
- Verify fitment first.
- Read the full listing.
- Use a certified mechanic.
- Check provincial registration and inspection rules.
- Inspect on arrival and report problems immediately.
Section 14 – Changes to this disclaimer
We may update this disclaimer at any time. The date at the top shows the latest revision. Changes do not affect existing orders.
Include your vehicle's year, make, model, and engine code when asking about condition, fitment, mileage records, compression results, or emissions.
