Warranty and returns policy

B. Items and conditions covered by the limited warranty

1. Internal engine parts: pistons, rings, pins, crankshaft and main bearings, connecting rods and bearings, camshaft and bearings, timing chain and gears, valves, springs, seals, guides, oil pump, pushrods, rocker arms and shafts. The block, cylinder walls, and cylinder head are covered against cracks or distortion.
2. Head gaskets are covered for 30 days only, regardless of the duration in section A.
3. Japan Motor Import may, at its own discretion, repair with rebuilt or serviceable used parts, or exchange the engine.

C. Items not covered

External parts such as intake and exhaust manifolds, carburetors, distributor, starter, emission devices, flywheel, clutch, water pump, thermostat, belts, hoses, oil pan, valve cover, sensors, electronic parts, transmissions, driveshafts, engine mounts, and half shafts.

D. This limited warranty does not cover

1. Labor to remove and install a repaired or exchanged engine.
2. Damage from abuse, neglect, accidents, or acts of nature.
3. Loss from improper installation.
4. Towing, freight, or delivery charges.
5. Overheating damage, including oil leaks and blown head gaskets from poor coolant/water circulation, a clogged radiator, a stuck thermostat, or a faulty water pump.
6. Gradual loss of performance from normal wear, unless an actual breakdown occurs.
7. Loss from modifications or uses the engine was not designed for (turbos, superchargers, nitrous, aftermarket tuned ECUs, etc.).
8. Engines used for competitive driving or racing.
9. Loss from failure of parts not covered by this warranty.
10. Tune-ups, adjustments, filters, hoses, belts, lubricants, coolants, emission devices, spark plugs, and similar items.
11. Deterioration or pre-ignition damage.
12. Repairs performed without prior authorization from Japan Motor Import.
13. Loss from a defective timing belt — a new timing belt must be installed.
14. Loss from forced induction or modifications (NOS, turbos, superchargers) the engine was not factory-designed for.

E. Limitation of duration

Repairs or exchanges will not extend this limited warranty beyond the described term on this form (item A).

F. Disclaimer 1

This limited warranty is in lieu of all other express warranties from Japan Motor Import. Any implied warranty is limited to the duration of this warranty. No person is authorized to assume any other obligation or liability on the company's behalf.

G. Disclaimer 2

Japan Motor Import is not responsible for incidental or consequential damages, including loss of use, loss of time, inconvenience, or commercial loss.

H. Warranty claim procedure

1. To file a claim, contact us via the contact page.
2. The customer pays freight to return a defective engine; no replacement ships until our staff verify the defect. If the engine is defective, we refund the return shipping and ship a replacement. If it is not defective, the customer pays to have the engine shipped back.
3. The engine must be returned in the same condition it was sent. Missing parts are charged to the customer.
4. If the wrong or defective engine is not returned within 60 days after a replacement ships, the customer is charged the full engine price plus freight.

Emissions note: Engines with accessories attached may not meet local emission laws. Emission devices must be transferred from your old engine. Add-on parts are left attached for testing purposes only, free of charge. The price covers the long block only (cylinder head and short block).

Maintenance requirements — failure to follow voids the warranty:

1. Installation, maintenance, or adjustment must be performed by a certified mechanic.
2. Ignition timing must be set to the manufacturer's specification.
3. Change the oil after 5,000 km.
4. Re-torque cylinder head bolts to the manufacturer's specification.
5. Check the cooling system; service it if rusted or contaminated with oil, and replace the coolant.
6. Replace the timing belt, oil filter, water pump, and spark plugs.
