Accessibility statement
Last updated and effective: October 2, 2026
Japan Motor Import wants every customer to be able to find, research, and buy parts on japanmotorimport.ca, including people who are blind or have low vision, are Deaf or hard of hearing, or have motor, cognitive, or speech disabilities. This statement describes the standards we work toward, what we have done, the limitations we know about, and how to reach us if something does not work for you.
Section 1 – Standards we work toward
We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA, published by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C). WCAG is built on four principles:
- Perceivable: information is available to at least one of your senses, for example through text alternatives for images.
- Operable: every feature works with a keyboard, switch, voice control, or other input device.
- Understandable: text is clear, pages behave predictably, and error messages explain how to fix the problem.
- Robust: content works reliably with browsers and assistive technologies.
Accessibility is ongoing work. Our website changes as we add inventory and features, and we review it regularly against these guidelines.
Section 2 – What we do
- Clear page structure: headings in a logical order and standard page regions (header, navigation, main content, footer) so screen readers can move around each page efficiently.
- Text alternatives: meaningful images, such as product photos and brand logos, have descriptive alternative text; purely decorative images are hidden from screen readers.
- Keyboard access and visible focus: links, buttons, menus, and form fields can be reached with the Tab key, with a visible focus outline.
- Labelled controls: icon-only links, such as our social media links, have accessible names, and form fields have labels and clear error messages.
- Colour and contrast: we aim for WCAG AA contrast ratios and do not rely on colour alone to convey information.
- Responsive layout and zoom: pages adapt to phones, tablets, and desktops, and content reflows when you zoom in.
- English and French: you can view the site in English or Français using the language switcher.
- Several ways to reach us: phone numbers, a text message line, and our email address are tap-to-call, tap-to-text, and tap-to-email links on every page.
Section 3 – Accessibility across key tasks
Finding parts
The vehicle finder uses standard drop-down menus for year, make, and model, which work with a keyboard and screen readers. Category pages, search, and brand pages use descriptive link text.
Product pages
Prices, condition, mileage, and fitment details are shown as text, not embedded in images, so assistive technology can read them.
Cart and checkout
The cart lists each item’s name, quantity, and price as readable text. Payment is completed in Stripe’s secure checkout (see Section 6). If you have any difficulty paying online, call us and we will help you complete your order by phone.
Your account
Signed-in customers can view orders and invoices and change their profile, password, and appearance (light or dark mode) settings.
Section 4 – Assistive technology
We design our website to work with current versions of major browsers and common assistive technologies, including:
- Screen readers: NVDA and JAWS on Windows, VoiceOver on macOS and iOS, and TalkBack on Android
- Keyboard-only navigation and switch devices
- Voice control: Dragon, Windows Voice Access, and Apple Voice Control
- Screen magnifiers and browser zoom
If a particular combination does not work well on our site, please tell us.
Section 5 – Known limitations
We are working on the barriers below, and we can always help you through another channel in the meantime.
| Area | Limitation | Alternative |
|---|---|---|
| Payment checkout | Payment screens are provided by our payment processors. We cannot change their code. | Call us to place your order by phone. |
| French pages | Some French content may be translated automatically, so part names and terms may be imprecise. | Contact us by phone or email and we will clarify anything that is unclear. |
| Older product photos | Some older listing photos may have generic alternative text. | Condition details are always in the listing text, and we can describe any photo on request. |
| Map directions | Our address opens in Google Maps, which has its own accessibility limitations. | Our full address is always shown as text: 10601 Ave Brunet, Montreal-Nord, QC H1G 5E1. |
Section 6 – Third-party content
Some features rely on outside services whose code we do not control. We choose providers that publish accessibility commitments and report problems to them when we find them:
- Stripe provides our card and Apple Pay checkout.
- Google Maps provides directions to our warehouse.
- Facebook and Instagram host our social media pages.
Section 7 – Accessibility and the law
- Quebec: the Charter of human rights and freedoms protects everyone from discrimination based on a handicap, including in access to goods and services offered to the public.
- Across Canada: provincial human rights laws provide similar protection, and laws such as Ontario’s Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act and the federal Accessible Canada Act reflect the same goal of a barrier-free Canada. We use WCAG 2.1 Level AA, the benchmark these frameworks rely on, as our standard.
Wherever you live, we will fix barriers when we learn of them and help you through an accessible alternative in the meantime. Please contact us first so we can address any issue directly.
Section 8 – How we handle reports
- We log your report as soon as it arrives by email, phone, or text message.
- We acknowledge it within 2 business days.
- We reproduce the problem using the device and assistive technology you describe, where possible.
- We help you right away through another channel, for example by taking your order or sending product details by phone or email.
- We fix the problem, update this statement if needed, and let you know when the fix is live.
Section 9 – Report a barrier or get help
If any part of our website is hard to use, email japanmotorimport@gmail.com with the subject “Accessibility Feedback,” call 514-369-3330, or send a text message to 514-431-8211. It helps if you include:
- The page address (URL) where you had the problem
- What you were trying to do and what happened
- Your browser and device, and any assistive technology you use
- How you would prefer us to contact you
You never need to explain or prove a disability to get help. Our team can also take your order, answer product questions, and look up your order status by phone, text, or email.
