Disclaimer
Last updated and effective: October 2, 2026
Japan Motor Import sells used engines, transmissions, front clips, right-hand-drive (RHD) vehicles, and parts originally built for the Japanese market and intended for use in Canada. Please read this disclaimer before you buy. It explains the condition of our parts, what our warranty covers, how fitment and mileage work, and what you are responsible for. It forms part of our Terms & Conditions, together with our Warranty Policy, Return & Refund Policy, and Legal Notice.
Section 1 – Key facts about our products
- Unless a listing says otherwise, parts are used, pre-owned components with prior service history.
- Most parts are imported directly from Japan and were built for Japanese-market vehicles, which can differ from Canadian-market vehicles in specifications, emissions equipment, and design.
- Every engine passes a multi-point inspection and compression test, and we only ship engines with positive compression results. We can provide the results on request.
- Other parts are not bench-tested unless the listing says they were.
- Our limited warranty applies as described, in addition to the legal warranty you have under the law.
Section 2 – Product condition
“Used” means a part was installed and working in a vehicle before it was removed. It does not mean the part is damaged or faulty. Here is what to expect:
| Part type | What to expect | Before installation |
|---|---|---|
| Engines | Used, typically 32,000–97,000 km depending on year. Compression tested. Small scratches, surface rust, oil seepage, and aged hoses are normal. Fragile plastic, metal, or rubber parts may bend or break in shipping. | Installation by a certified mechanic; replace the timing belt, water pump, oil filter, and spark plugs as required by our warranty. |
| Transmissions | Used, removed from a donor vehicle. Grime, surface corrosion, and seal weeping are common. Not bench-tested unless stated. | Confirm automatic or manual, 2WD or AWD, and model code; check fluid and seals. |
| Front clips and nose cuts | May include bumper, fenders, hood, headlights, and radiator support. Cosmetic marks, minor dents, and missing clips or trim are possible. | Check the listing photos and contents; confirm body style and model years. |
| RHD vehicles | Used vehicles imported from Japan, sold in the condition described in the listing. | See Section 7 before you buy. |
| KDM and other parts | Condition, new or used, as stated in each listing. | Match the part number and trim to your vehicle. |
| Electrical parts and ECUs | Used, not bench-tested. Connector pins may show oxidation. Not covered by our limited warranty. | Confirm the exact part number before buying. JDM ECUs may need reprogramming or replacement. |
Have every part inspected by a qualified mechanic and replace normal wear items during installation.
Section 3 – Warranty
Our limited warranty is described in our Warranty Policy, which sets out coverage periods by part type, covered and excluded components, maintenance requirements, and the claim procedure. Some items, such as electrical and electronic parts, rotary engines, and used performance transmissions, are not covered by our limited warranty.
Legal warranty: whatever our limited warranty says, consumers in Quebec are protected by the legal warranty under the Consumer Protection Act: goods must be fit for their ordinary use and durable for a reasonable time, having regard to their price, the terms of the contract, and the conditions of their use, and you have recourse for latent defects. This applies to used goods and cannot be excluded. Consumers in other provinces keep the protections of their provincial laws.
- Labour: our limited warranty does not cover labour by third parties to remove or install a part, towing, freight, or rental vehicles.
- Maintenance requirements: our limited warranty requires installation and maintenance by a certified mechanic and the maintenance steps in the warranty, including an oil change at 5,000 km.
- Exclusions: damage from overheating, modification, forced induction, racing, or repairs made without our prior authorization is not covered by our limited warranty.
Section 4 – Vehicle compatibility and fitment
JDM parts often share platforms with Canadian-market vehicles but are not always identical. The year, make, model, and engine code in our listings and vehicle finder are a general guide, based on manufacturer specifications and import documentation.
Your responsibility to verify
- Match the engine or transmission code to your vehicle’s factory specification, not just the model name or year.
- Confirm the transmission type (automatic or manual) and drivetrain (FWD, RWD, or AWD).
- Check that sensors, accessory drives, and mounting points will work with your vehicle.
- Ask a mechanic experienced with JDM swaps, or contact us, before ordering if you are unsure.
Common JDM and Canadian-market differences
- Power output, compression, or recommended fuel octane may differ.
- Sensor connectors, oxygen sensor ports, and emissions fittings may differ.
- Transmission gear ratios may differ, which can affect speedometer accuracy.
- Accessory brackets, power steering pumps, and A/C compressor mounts may not match.
- The engine computer (ECU) may need reprogramming, or you may need to use your existing ECU.
We do not accept returns for parts that do not fit, unless we posted incorrect information about the part’s Japanese specifications. Contact us at japanmotorimport@gmail.com or 514-369-3330 before you order if you have any doubt.
Section 5 – Mileage disclosure
Japan’s strict vehicle inspection system (known as “shaken”) encourages owners to replace vehicles earlier than is common in Canada, which is why many JDM engines and transmissions have relatively low mileage. We are not the original owner of these vehicles, however, and cannot independently verify every mileage figure.
- Documented mileage: where a listing shows a mileage figure, it comes from the Japanese auction or dismantler records for the donor vehicle, in kilometres.
- Typical range: used engines have generally been driven 32,000–97,000 km, depending on the year of manufacture.
- Undocumented mileage: if no reliable record was available, the listing shows no mileage figure or says it is unknown, and we make no claim about the part’s mileage.
Section 6 – Emissions, legal use, and long-block pricing
JDM engines and drivetrain parts were built to Japanese standards. Vehicle emissions in Canada are regulated federally under the Canadian Environmental Protection Act, 1999, and by provincial rules where your vehicle is registered. Japan Motor Import makes no representation that a part meets the rules that apply to your vehicle unless the listing says so.
- Your responsibility: confirm that the engine and the finished vehicle will meet federal and provincial requirements, and any inspection required by your licensing authority (for example, the SAAQ in Quebec), before installation.
- Emission control equipment: transfer the emission control devices from your original engine to the replacement engine where required. Removing or disabling emission control equipment can be an offence.
- Off-road and competition use: for vehicles never registered for public roads, compliance with the rules of the relevant sanctioning body is the buyer’s responsibility.
Long-block pricing: engines complete with accessories may not comply with the emission control laws where they are sold or used. Add-on parts are left attached for testing and your convenience only, free of charge. Unless the listing states otherwise, the purchase price covers the long block only (cylinder head and short block).
Section 7 – Right-hand-drive (RHD) vehicles
The RHD vehicles we sell were built for the Japanese market, not to Canadian motor vehicle safety standards. Transport Canada generally allows such vehicles to be imported once they are at least 15 years old.
- Before buying, confirm with your provincial licensing authority (for example, the SAAQ in Quebec) what inspections and documents are needed to register the vehicle.
- Confirm with your insurer that the vehicle can be insured for your intended use.
- Gauges, lighting, labels, and manuals may be in Japanese or metric units, and replacement parts may be harder to source than for Canadian-market models.
- Each listing describes the vehicle’s condition and the documents included. Ask us for any detail you need before you buy.
Section 8 – OEM brand and trademark disclaimer
Japan Motor Import is an independent importer and retailer. We are not an authorized dealer, affiliate, or licensee of any vehicle manufacturer. Brand names, model names, and engine codes, including Honda, Acura, Toyota, Lexus, Scion, Nissan, Infiniti, Subaru, Mazda, Mitsubishi, Suzuki, Hyundai, Kia, and Genesis, are trademarks of their owners and are used only to describe compatibility and the vehicles parts came from.
When we call a part “OEM,” we mean it was made by or for the original vehicle manufacturer and fitted at the factory. It does not mean the part is sold through a manufacturer’s authorized dealer network.
Section 9 – Website information
- We update product information, prices, and fitment data regularly, but errors can occur. If we find an error after you order, we will contact you before shipping.
- Photos show the actual part or its typical condition. Colours may look different depending on your screen.
- We may correct listings at any time. Corrections do not affect orders that have already shipped.
Section 10 – Installation and professional advice
Information on our website and from our team is general guidance to help you choose a part. It is not a substitute for an inspection and diagnosis by a qualified mechanic who can see your vehicle.
If you choose our local installation service, the labour warranty and terms provided with that service apply to the installation work.
Section 11 – Limitation of liability
To the extent permitted by law, Japan Motor Import is not liable for indirect or consequential losses arising from a part bought from us, such as third-party labour or diagnostic fees, towing, rental vehicles, lost income, or loss of use of a vehicle, and our total liability is limited to the price you paid for the part.
These limitations do not apply where the law prohibits them. They do not limit the legal warranty or any other right of consumers under the Quebec Consumer Protection Act, which prohibits a merchant from excluding liability for its own acts, or the consumer protection laws of your province.
Section 12 – Handling and safety
- Engines, transmissions, and front clips are heavy. Use proper lifting equipment and protective gear when receiving, moving, or installing them.
- Parts may contain residual oil, coolant, or transmission fluid. Handle them carefully and dispose of fluids according to the environmental rules of your province.
- Inspect every freight delivery before signing, as described in our Shipping Policy.
- If you have a safety concern about a part, contact us before going further.
Section 13 – Buyer responsibilities
- Verify fitment first. Confirm the part matches your vehicle, engine code, and transmission type before ordering.
- Read the full listing. Each listing describes the condition of the item you are buying.
- Use a certified mechanic. Proper installation is required for our limited warranty and for your safety.
- Check provincial rules. Make sure the installation or vehicle can be registered and inspected where you live.
- Inspect on arrival. Check the packaging before signing, inspect the part before installing it, and report any problem right away.
Section 14 – Changes to this disclaimer
We may update this disclaimer at any time. The date at the top of this page shows the latest revision. Changes do not affect orders already placed.
